Man Lands Fourth DUI Arrest in Six Months Following Crash, Police Say

The Ambler man allegedly crashed into two parked vehicles in Lafayette Hill; a witness then turned off the striking car's engine, according to the report.

Whitemarsh Police arrested a 57-year-old Amber man after he allegedly crashed into two parked vehicles last Tuesday.

William F. Hirst Jr., of the 600 block of Marsten Green Circle, was arrested Oct. 22 after he sideswiped a Honda SUV parked in the 200 block of Germantown Pike, fled, and then struck a Mercury sedan in the 4000 block of Fairway Road while driving a black Infiniti shortly before 9 p.m., police said.

According to police, Hirst smelled of alcohol and had an iced tea bottle containing alcohol on the vehicle’s floor.

According to the affidavit, a witness said, “I was walking out of my house [on] Fairway Road and I heard a scraping sound and saw sparks flying from a car’s right-side rim. I ran down the street because I heard the car smash into another car. I ended up reaching into the car and turning off the engine.”

Hirst, who was bleeding excessively from the head, was transported to Abington Memorial Hospital via Whitemarsh Ambulance.

According to court documents, Hirst was arrested in April, June and August — all on DUI charges, and all in Montgomery Township.

Charges in the Oct. 22 incident are pending lab results.
