Plymouth-Whitemarsh-Conshy Primary Election Guide

Primary Election Day is Tuesday - here is your go-to-guide on what to expect.

  Republicans and Democrats from Plymouth, Whitemarsh and Conshohocken will head into the polls Tuesday between 7 a.m. and 8 p.m. to select the candidates to appear on their respective ballots in November. Here is a look at what to expect, and some Election Day resources. Local Elections: The only local contested elections on Tuesday will be school board, in which several Republicans and Democrats cross-filed to appear on both ballots. In Conshohocken, there are challengers for each of the three council seats up for grabs, but no Primary Election Day battles.  For more on that race, click here. Historical Society of Montgomery County to Host Genealogy Workshop

The four-week genealogy workshop is designed for beginners, and will start May 21.

The Historical Society of Montgomery County, located at 1654 Dekalb St. in Norristown, will hold a four-week Genealogy Workshop, from May 21 – June 11. The Tuesday evening workshops will occur from, 7 – 8:30 p.m., and will be lead by genealogist Rose Brown. The workshops are designed for beginning genealogists, who wish to find their roots. According to the Genealogy Society of Pennsylvania website, becoming a new genealogist is an exciting time, from discovering an ancestor’s naturalization papers or locating a long-ago relative in a census. The site goes on to say that genealogy has a special methodology, and the society suggests reaching out to a variety of more experienced genealogists for beginners. The materials for the workshops …

PW’s Jaylen Bond Leaving Longhorns for Temple

The 2011 Plymouth Whitemarsh graduate will sit out a season, per NCAA rules.

  Plymouth Whitemarsh High School graduate Jaylen Bond was released from the University of Texas Longhorns earlier this year, and decided Friday to transfer to Temple, according to Philly.com. Bond graduated from the Colonial School District in 2011, and backed out of a scholarship to Pittsburgh, opting for the Longhorn basketball program. “I learned a lot about life and basketball at Texas, and I'm thankful for that but there's no place like home,” Bond said on Twitter. Bond averaged 2.8 points and 3.2 rebounds in 11 minutes of playing time at Texas. Bond, a 6-foot-7-inch forward, will sit out next season, but he can practice with the team. PA Voters Say 'Fix Economy'

The Franklin & Marshal College Poll ranks what voters feel is important for the state.

The No. 1 issue that Pennsylvania voters care about is improving the economy, at least according to one poll. The Frankin and Marshall College poll of Pennsylvania voters for May 2013 found that, of 11 possible issues, the one voters said to be most important to them was improving the state’s economy. The poll listed a number of issues and asked voters to rank its importance on a scale of 1 to 10. The top two issues, “improving the state’s economy” and “help create new jobs,” both had a mean score of 8.9 among voters polled. The poll, which was conducted between April 30 and May 5, gathered responses from 526 registered voters, including 265 Democrats, 196 Republicans and 65 Independents. County Judge Hopefuls to Square Off in Primary Election

Two Republicans and two Democrats will be on the ballots of both political parties Tuesday.

  Four Montgomery County residents are hoping to fill two open seats in the Montgomery County Court of Common Pleas in January, but the first step is making it past the Primary Election, in which all of the candidates are cross-filed. Republican candidates Sharon Giamporcaro and Maureen Coggins will be on the Republican and Democrat ballots, as will Democrats Steven Tolliver and Gail Weilheimer. Judge Hopeful Steven Tolliver Holds Local Fundraiser

Republicans and Democrats attended in support of the Court of Common Pleas candidate from Cheltenham.

  Supporters of Democratic judicial candidate Steven Tolliver gathered at the Aviation Club on Narcissa Road in Blue Bell on Wednesday to raise money for his Montgomery County Court of Common Pleas run. Tolliver will be on both the Republican and Democrat ballot on Tuesday’s elections, with the other three candidates - Maureen Coggins and Sharon Giamporcaro, Republicans, and Gail Weilheimer, a Democrat, seeking the two open positions. “I possess the legal skill, trial experience, humility and judicial temperament, and have demonstrated a commitment to my community, that together will enable me to fairly and impartially administer justice,” Tolliver said of his experience. PWHS Interact Club Raises $2K for Relay for Life

Nearly 20 students walked the track at Upper Dublin High School this weekend to raise money towards cancer research on behalf of Rotary International.

  The Plymouth Whitemarsh High School Interact Club participated in the American Cancer Society Relay for Life at the Upper Dublin High School over the weekend, raising more than $2,000 to help raise money towards finding a cure for cancer. The event was held on May 17-18 at the UDHS track. Hundreds of supporters slept in tents overnight, taking turns to circle the track in support of cancer research. The PWHS Interactive Club is the high school arm of Rotary International, for volunteers between the ages of 12 and 18. Interact clubs complete at least two community service projects each year.
