Ikea Gives Employees Bikes

The gifts, announced in December, are a means to promote healthy lifestyles.

employees in Conshohocken and around the country were surprised when they found out in December, 2010 that the furniture story was gifting each of them with a brand new bicycle.

The holiday gift served as both a ‘thank you’ for each co-worker’s dedication and a way to promote a healthy.

Now the flat packed bikes are out of the cold winter boxes and on the streets across America. And many of these bikes have even been re-gifted Conshohocken-area charities.

Locally, the Conshohocken-based home office and the distribution center in Perryville, PA donated 150 bikes to K.I.D.S., a global charity that’s committed to helping improve the lives of children and their families who are ill, living in poverty, or are victims of natural disasters.

“On any given day, we see at least 10 IKEA bikes in our bike rack,” said Lorna Montalvo, a Brooklyn-based marketing specialist. “I would say that about 8% of IKEA co-workers bike to work now.”
