Lafayette Hill Business Holds Weekly Nighttime Group Run

Born to Run holds a weekly group run throughout local neighborhoods, taking place on Wednesday nights.

Born to Run, a running apparel business in Lafayette Hill, is currently hosting a group run every Wednesday night, starting at 6:15 p.m. The runs begin outside the store front, located at 428 Germanton Pike, and trails throughout nearby neighborhoods, as well as a few laps around Miles Park and behind Plymouth-Whitemarsh High School – averaging three-to-five miles.

“I hate going to the gym, so I just run,” Rob Anderson, manager of the Lafayette Hill Born to Run location, said.

According to the Born to Run website, the store has held several weekly group runs at its Springhouse location, but only in the morning. Anderson said that the nighttime group run allows runners of every skill level to enjoy their favorite form of exercise after work. All Born to Run group runs are free and open to the public.

“If they’re looking for a workout, we want to let them know we are here,” Anderson said.

Anderson, who has taken up running as a way to stay fit for the last five years, said that participating in a group run would be greatly beneficial to novice runners, as bonds are formed and techniques are shared with experienced runners.

Over the summer, the Lafayette Hill location also offered running technique workshops. Anderson said during the group run, such techniques and information would be discussed, including correct form, breathing and how to run in groups, so that runners may minimize injuries and run farther. Reflective, safety vests are also distributed to participants.

According to Anderson, the weekly group run hit its stride during the warmer months with a group of upwards to 10 participants, however, he notes that runners run no matter the season and encourages anyone interested to participate.

He added that in the upcoming spring months, Born to Run may work with local running groups to increase runners’ opportunities.

“We just want to get people together to run,” Anderson said.
