PWHS Winter Concert Set for Thursday

Composer visited Concert Band rehearsal to assist with concert preparations.

The annual PW Winter Concert will be on Thursday, December 13, at 7:30 PM, in the PW Auditorium.

Under the direction of Mrs. Elise Derewitz, the orchestra will begin the concert with classics such as the “Finale” from Beethoven’s Fifth Symphony and “Carol of the Bells.”

Directed by Mrs. Amy LaRu, the chorus will perform a variety of tunes ranging from “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas” to “Kling Glocken!” accompanied by the Hand Bell Choir.

The Concert Band will close the concert with traditional classics such as “Up on A Housetop,” “Hallelujah Chorus” and “Rockin Around the Christmas Tree.” The Concert Band is also very excited to perform “The Eighth Candle” by Steve Reisteter.

Reisteter, a resident of Bethlehem, PA, visited a PW Concert Band rehearsal in November to assist with concert preparations. He shared many anecdotes about the piece and demonstrated a wonderful sense of humor that appealed to the students.

Sophomore Seth Berger e-mailed Reisteter as part of his research for the Winter Concert Program Notes assignment. Seth shared his email address with Mrs. Tonia Kaufman, the band director. Then Mrs. Kaufman invited Reisteter to rehearsal and he gladly accepted.
