PWHS Football Gets the Win over Wissahickon
Xavier Ellington logs another big game for the Colonials
Xavier Ellington felt like swimming last Friday night.
Wissahickon probably wished that he did.
Torrential rain didn’t stop the senior tailback from rushing for a career-best 191 yards and three touchdowns in a 31-7 victory over Wissahickon on Friday.

“I was taking smaller steps, I didn’t want to take the larger steps because I thought I’d slide all over the place,” Ellington said. “It was pouring down heavy and I felt my cleats getting heavy. It was basically like tip-toeing. Against , we played in the mud, and I thought I was taking too many wide steps and that caused me to lose my footing. This time, with all the rain, I wanted to keep my steps short.
“Running through the water wasn’t the hard part, the cutting was what I was more nervous about. I was making more forward runs, and little cuts, and the speed helped.”

The Colonials are 3-1 and 1-0 in the Suburban One American Conference with winless Upper Moreland next on Friday, at 7 p.m. PWHS.
“Things are coming together for us now,” Ellington said. “Our offensive line is opening holes better, and that’s creating a lot of space for me. I’d love to have our one loss to Abington back, and we’re all improving with each week. Our defense, our offense, we’re taking it day-by-day.”
