Plymouth Whitemarsh High School Seniors Honored

The National Merit Scholarship Corporation recognized six Plymouth Whitemarsh High School seniors for their “exceptional academic promise.”

According to the Colonial School District, two students, Connor Hanlon and Sierra Spencer, were named National Merit semifinalists and will be considered for about 8,000 National Merit Scholarships offered next spring.

About 1.5 million high school juniors in over 22,000 high schools took the 2012 PSAT. Hanlon and Spencer are among the less than one percent of the nation’s high school seniors named National Merit semifinalists.

Hanlon is a team captain and starting quarterback for the Colonials football team and Spencer is a team captain and starting defender on the Colonials field hockey team.

Four students, Caroline Littlejohn, Brett Paul, Katherine Sellers and Jonah Wasserman were named Commended Students for scoring among the top five percent of those who took the 2011 PSAT.

Over the past five years, PWHS has had 42 students recognized by the NMSC, including seven who were National Merit finalists. Hanlon and Spencer will learn if they become finalists in February.
