Plymouth Council Honors PW Marching Colonials

Plymouth Township Council kicked off its meeting by recognizing the high school marching band.

Plymouth Township Council, at its meeting this week, honored the Plymouth Whitemarsh High School Marching Colonials for its successful season.

Many members of the band, as well as its director, Tonia Kaufman, were in the crowd.

Council President Sheldon Simpson, reading from a citation, congratulated the band on winning the Cavalcade of Bands Championship at Millersville University on Nov. 10.

The band marched away with a score of 97.05 at the competition. Simpson said the Marching Colonials’ program, “Symphony in Red,” was emotional and contained exciting visual effects and unique musical arrangements.

The band comprises 44 members; 17 of them are seniors.

“It’s a shame to see to see the number of people in the band compared to what it was years ago, [but] it’s a very big honor for a group that small to win against such bigger schools so congratulations on a fine, fine job,” Simpson said.
