Super Bowl Champ Scott, Distinguished Resident Snear, Honored by Conshohocken

Conshohocken native was part of New York Giants 2012 Championship.

Da'Rel Scott first learned the game of football as a Conshohocken Bear, clashing against little league opponents on the A-field. On Wednesday, the now New York Giants running back returned to his hometown wearing the greatest prize of the game: a Super Bowl Championship ring.

Scott was one of several guests honored at Borough council's Wednesday meeting, as Mayor Robert Frost presented him with a commemorative resolution to "honor and acknowledge his outstanding achievement."

Scott, admittedly soft-spoken, simply smiled to the crowd and flashed his championship ring for all to see. The 5'11", 210-pound speedster was a three-year letterwinner at Plymouth-Whitemarsh High School, where he played running back and free safety. Scott also ran track for the Colonials, winning the state championship in the 100-meter dash with a time of 10.56 seconds.

Scott went on to play football for the University of Maryland, becoming one of only seven tailbacks to rush for 1,000 yards in a season in the school's history. He was drafted by the New York Giants as the 221st overall pick in 2011 and recorded two touchdowns in his rookie preseason, earning him a spot on the Super Bowl-destined team.

Council also recognized former resident George W. Snear, who passed away last month at the age of 84. Snear was a highly distinguished native of Conshohocken, owning the Moore & Snear Funeral Home while devoting his time to many community organizations.

Snear served as president of the Conshohocken Free Library, board member of the Fellowship House of Conshohocken, treasurer of the Conshohocken School Board, judge of the Soap Box Derby, organizer of the Albert Donofrio Basketball Tournament, volunteer for the Washington, Conshohocken, and Harmonville Fire Companies, and in many other roles.

Mayor Frost presented a commemorative resolution for "distinguished service to the Borough" to Snear's family.

In addition, Bridget Reed and George Brown were sworn in as fire police, and Joe Dougherty and Aaron Weems were appointed to the Conshohocken Planning Commission, each by 5-1 votes. A number of nurses from Immaculata University also attended the meeting to get an inside look at Borough government.
