CNN has called Pennsylvania for both President Barack Obama and Senator Bob Casey.

8 p.m.: As polls close around Pennsylvania, poll workers in the Plymouth Whitemarsh area confirmed what they suspected after a busy morning: turnout is about as high as they've seen.

At Whitemarsh's West-3 polling station at the Masonic Village on Ridge Pike, where there were about one hundred people gathered when polls opened, election judge Bart Levy said the station was 60 votes short of its 2008 record. With an hour to go, 1090 out of about 1,450 registered voters had cast their ballot.

Turnout was similar at Conshohocken's ward 6 polling place, where 569 voters out of 811 had voted by 7:15. The story was the same at Plymouth Township's 2-3 polling station at Plymouth Community Ambulance, where 866 out of 1221voters  had cast their ballots as of 7:30 p.m.

The total surpassed the numbers in the 2008 general election, poll workers said.

1 p.m. update: Poll workers across the PW area are saying that morning turnout was extremely high. Some locations have already surpassed their entire numbers for the spring primary, and several workers have said it appears busier than in 2008. Click here for a full report.

In addition, there has been minor confusion over Voter ID laws, election judges said. Under current Pennsylvania law, people voting for the first time in their district are required to show ID. While workers may ask everyone to show ID, you are not required to if you previously voted in that district.
