Montco Issues Another 'Code Blue'

The weather conditions may threaten the safety of people without shelter.

The Montgomery County Commissioners have announced another "Code Blue" cold weather emergency for the county.

This one starts Wednesday at 9 p.m. and runs through Sunday, Dec. 1 at 9 a.m. The decision to issue the warning came after a review of weather forecasts from the National Weather Service, according to a press release.

The county announces a "Code Blue"  when cold weather conditions might threaten the life and health of people who do not have shelter from the elements. The Code Blue is announced when the combined temperature of the air and wind chill are thought to be 20 degrees or lower in the near future.

“During a Code Blue it is imperative that we check on our elderly relatives and neighbors to make sure they are safe, and it is even more important over this holiday weekend,” Commissioner Bruce Castor said.  “Our police, first responders, non-profit agencies, and the county Public Safety Department stand ready to lend assistance, but I urge everyone to be vigilant to make sure everyone has a safe holiday weekend.”

The Code Blue announcement was made after a recommendation that the Montgomery County Department of Public Safety made to the commissioners.
