Beekeeping on the Agenda for Plymouth Council Meeting

Plymouth Council will once again consider a draft beekeeping ordinance at its workshop meeting tonight, Dec. 3 at 7 p.m.

Although an agenda for the meeting has not yet been published online, township staff e-mailed interested parties saying that the ordinance will be "discussed."

Council last considered the ordinance when township planning consultant Ken Amey revised the draft ordinance to have less restrictive setback and lot size requirements. Council asked for a few additional considerations, including whether or not space at Wetherhill Park could be provided as a place to for residents to practice the hobby.

The issue has been a controversial one since council first considered it in April, with as many as fifty residents and beekeeping proponents giving emotional appeals at various council meetings. Beekeepers from around the region and state have said that the ordinance would be one of the first of its kind in Pennsylvania.
