WPD Reports: Man Resists Police after Falling Asleep Behind the Wheel

All information is according to official police reports filed at the Whitemarsh Township Police Department. All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Suspected DUI/ Narcotic possession:

At approximately 6:48 am on Sunday, Sep. 2, Whitemarsh Police were dispatched to the 600 block of Germantown Pike for the report of a male sleeping in a Ford Explorer in the middle of the roadway. Upon arrival, police observed the vehicle’s driver, later identified as Archie Norris, 45, of 225 West Sulis Street, Philadelphia, passed out in the driver’s seat with his foot against the brake pedal, with the vehicle in drive.

Police detected the odor of alcohol coming from inside the vehicle, and upon waking Norris, found him to be incoherent, a report said. Norris also told the officers he believed he was in Trenton, N.J. and was unsure of how he had arrived in the roadway. Police said that upon asking Norris to step out of the vehicle, he was handcuffed because he continued to reach into his pockets despite being asked not to, and was also unsteady on his feet.

Police then searched the vehicle, finding a bag in the back of the SUV that contained approximately 100 grams of marijuana, the report said. As Norris was taken into custody to be transported to a local hospital for a chemical blood test, police say he began to kick at the windows of the patrol car, causing police to shackle his feet. Upon arrival at the hospital, Norris’ pants fell down, and he attempted to hit an officer with his shoulder as he assisted Norris with his pants, the report said.

Ultimately, Norris was placed into a DUI cell at Whitemarsh police station, where he then attempted to hit a camera in the cell, prompting officers to chain him to a bench, police said. He was charged with DUI refusal and possession of narcotics.

Theft of gold jewelry:
At approximately 12:34 pm on Friday, Aug. 31, a resident of the Hill at Whitemarsh, of the 4000 block of Fox Hound Drive, Lafayette Hill, reported a theft to police.

According to the 81-year-old woman, an unknown person stole a gold bangle bracelet, gold rope bracelet, and a gold charm bracelet from her room.  According to the report, the bracelet had four charms reading BRG, RRG, ARG, and KEG.

Burglary:
At approximately 3:48 pm on Thursday, Aug. 30, a resident of the 4000 block of Arbour Circle, Lafayette Hill, reported a burglary to police. An ensuing investigation determined that an unknown person likely entered the home sometime between 9:40 am and 2:10 pm and rummaged through a first floor office and several upstairs bedrooms. The report did not say whether any items were stolen.

Stolen 14k rolex:
At approximately 1 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 30, a resident of the 100 block of Black Walnut Lane, Plymouth Meeting, reported to police that someone had stolen a $14,000 Rolex watch from his home. According to the victim, the watch could have been stolen anytime since 2009, when he last knew it to be in a closet in his home. A police investigation continues.

Stolen generator:
At approximately 8:24 am on Thursday, Aug. 30, a resident near Kottler Drive and Thomas Road, Lafayette Hill, reported that someone had stolen a generator from the back of his PECO truck. The victim told police that approximately a week earlier, he had placed the generator into the trailer and locked it with a key lock. However, upon return, the pad lock had been removed and the generator was missing.

The report stated that the generator is a Honda EM 6500SX, valued at $3,198.95.
