WPD Reports: Golf Course Vandalized, DUI, Burglary

All information is according to official police reports filed at the Whitemarsh Township Police Department. All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Criminal mischief:
At approximately 11:39 a.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 23, an employee of the Green Valley Country Club reported to police that someone had vandalized the golf course overnight. According to the employee, someone had vandalized the area near the driving range and 8th and 9th greens, by ripping out signs and throwing them into the pond. The employee also said it appeared as though someone had used their heel to dig up parts of the turf on the two greens.

The employee did not estimate the cost of repairs and asked police for more patrols in the area.

Theft from Washington Towers:
At approximately 4:50 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 23, a resident of the Washington Towers, 491 Bethlehem Pike, Fort Washington, reported a series of thefts to police.

According to the resident, he had been out of the towers since they were condemned last May, and was assured by the property’s owner that he could leave his belongings in the apartment while renovations were being completed. However, the resident says that a series of thefts have occurred over the past five months, resulting in between $3000 and $5000 in stolen property value.

The allegedly stolen items included:

• Antique Lion’s Head ring with ruby eyes and a diamond mouth ($1,000)
• 2 mechanics toolboxes containing various tools ($700)
• Sony Handycam video recorder ($500)
• Compaq Presario laptop ($500)
• A Fujifilm Finepix A350 camera ($200)
• Various other electronics, coins, tools, and valuables

DUI:
At approximately 9:03 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 24, a Whitemarsh Police officer was on foot in the parking lot of the Wawa at 406 Germantown Pike when he observed a dark colored Buick sedan in a parking space, with its tail end sticking into a lane of traffic. Upon approaching the vehicle, the driver told the officer he was leaving.

However, upon backing out of the space, it appeared the vehicle was going to travel in the wrong lane of direction, so again the cop spoke to the driver. This time, the officer observed the driver to have red, glassy eyes, a report said. The officer asked the driver, identified as Julian Bailey, 24, of the 500 block of Queen Lane, Philadelphia, to step outside the vehicle.

The officer then detected the odor of alcohol, and asked Bailey to perform several field sobriety tests, which he failed, the report said. Bailey was then taken into custody and brought to an area hospital for a blood sample to determine his blood alcohol concentration.

Burglary:
At approximately 11:53 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 22, Whitemarsh Police responded to the 6000 block of East Valley Green Road, Fort Washington, for the report of a residential burglary. The residents there told police that upon returning home after being away since Oct. 19, they found the front door of their house wide open and the backdoor pried home.

Upon investigation, police found the home had been burglarized, particularly an upstairs bedroom where a jewelry box containing approximately $1,000 in assorted jewelry had been stolen.

Fraud:
At approximately 2:12 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 22, a resident of the 4000 block of Joshua Road reported to police that she believed someone had tried to scam her. According to the resident, a man named “Joe Lopez” called and identified himself as an employee of the Department of Homeland Security and claimed the woman had won $550,000 and needed to insure herself through Lloyd’s of London. The woman hung up on the man and called police. According to the resident, the man called from 718-285-7972.

Theft:
At approximately 2 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 22, a patron of the Planet Fitness on Bethlehem Pike reported to police that someone had stolen prescription medications from her gym bag. According to the victim, the theft likely occurred during the evening of October 19 when she says the bag was placed in an unlocked locker in the women’s room.

According to the woman, the bag also contained an iPod, cell phone, wallet, and other assorted items, which were not reported as stolen.

Theft:
At approximately 6:40 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 22, a resident of the 200 block of Birch Lane, Lafayette Hill, reported to police that someone stole a pink K-2 snowboard from his front lawn while it was out for a friend to pick it up. The resident valued the board at $200.
