Woman Critically Injured in Crash with SEPTA Bus on Germantown Pike

The accident closed Germantown Pike between Thomas Road and E. Northwestern Ave on Tuesday night.

A woman is in critical condition after a head-on crash with a SEPTA bus on Germantown Pike just before 6:45 p.m. on Feb. 19.

The crash closed down Germantown Pike between Thomas Road and E. Northwestern Ave., in front of Bruno’s Restaurant, just over the Whitemarsh Township line in Springfield.

On the scene, a dark-colored sedan was located in the yard of the Lincoln Woods apartment complex with a heavily damaged front and a removed passenger-side door.

A SEPTA bus, with severe front-end damage and a smashed window, was on the side of the road facing west.

Police told ABCLocal that the vehicle was heading east on Germantown Pike when the driver crossed the center line and collided with a SEPTA bus head on; speed was a factor in the accident, officials said.

The bus was headed to the Plymouth Meeting Mall; no on one the bus was injured.

A woman at the scene, who was seen talking to police, told Patch that her female friend was in the vehicle at the time of the crash, and she was unaware of her friend’s condition.

According to reports, the driver was taken by Springfield Ambulance Association to Albert Einstein Medical Center in critical condition with severe head injuries.

Police, fire and SEPTA officials were investigating the scene and speaking to SEPTA employees; one appeared to be the driver of the bus. At 8:30 p.m., a SEPTA tow truck arrived to remove the bus.

A SEPTA official said that the crash remains under investigation.

Whitemarsh and Springfield Police, Springfield and Flourtown Fire Companies, and Flourtown Fire Police were on the scene.
