Shots Fired Incident Sends Norristown Police to Smith Street Early Sunday Morning
The incident occurred shortly after 1 a.m. No injuries were reported, but police are investigating whether one of the recently-stolen weapons was involved.
Police are investigating a shooting that occurred along the 800 block of Smith Street early Sunday morning.
The shooting occurred shortly after 1 a.m., but no injuries were reported. Multiple Patch readers described hearing a "gun battle" and "automatic" gun fire in the area. According to Detective Lieutenant Michael Crescitelli, police on the scene retrieved a rifle from a rear yard, which they believe was one of the weapons stolen from a home on Chain Street last week, but had yet to confirm so.
Police also believe one of the stolen weapons may have been involved in Thursday night's shooting on Corson Street, which sent one victim to the hospital after sustaining a bullet wound to the leg. Additionally, investigators discovered 14 .223-caliber shell casings nearby, according to a report in the Times Herald.
Both shootings, as well as the burglary, remain under investigation.
