Man Flees Suspected DUI in Cab, Police Say

Whitemarsh Police arrested a man who they say crashed into a pole and then left the scene in a cab. 

Alexander Roll Schecter, 21, of the 800 block of Sunnylea Road, Lansdale, was arrested Aug. 8 at about 2:30 a.m. after police say he crashed a maroon Buick into a pole near the corner of Ridge Pike and Chestnut Street. 

The Buick was seen blocking westbound Ridge Pike, police said. It had heavy front-end damage to the passenger side and also damage to the passenger side door.

According to police, a taxi was seen in the area. Police stopped the taxi in the 200 block of Ridge Pike and Schecter was in the back seat.

Schecter smelled of alcohol and was unsteady on his feet and had difficulty standing, police said; he blew a 0.124 percent on a preliminary breath test.

Charges are pending the results of the blood test.
