Man Charged with Providing Alcohol to Minors

A Whitemarsh man provided alcohol for a Sweet Sixteen party, the DA said. One minor had to be hospitalized for alcohol poisoning.

A Whitemarsh man has been charged after police said he provided alcohol for a Sweet Sixteen party.

Arthur Blumenthal, of the 4000 block of Woodruff Road, has been charged via summons with corruption of minors, recklessly endangering another person and furnishing alcohol to minors, Montgomery County District Attorney Risa Vetri Ferman said Wednesday.

The initial call came around 10:30 p.m. March 21, and responding officers from the Whitemarsh Township Police Department found a juvenile male on the front lawn of the home, vomiting and smelling strongly of alcohol, police said. The boy was transported to Chestnut Hill Hospital to be treated for alcohol poisoning, police said.

Inside the home, which is owned by Blumenthal, police found more than 60 minors and numerous empty and full cases of beer.

All of the minors were identified, tested for alcohol and released to their parents, police said. "Numerous citations" for underage drinking were issued, police said.

A preliminary hearing is set for 10:30 a.m. May 7 before Magisterial District Judge Deborah Lukens. Assistant District Attorney Gabriel C. Mageee will prosecute the case.
