Man Arrested on Suspicion of DUI for Third Time in Seven Years

He was very candid about what he had done, according to police.

Whitemarsh Police arrested a man on suspicion of DUI after he repeatedly honked his horn at an empty intersection early Friday morning and allegedly fled from police.

James Peter Lunn, 32, of the 200 block of Blue Ridge Road, Plymouth Meeting, was arrested at about 1:20 a.m. on Birch Lane near Ridge Pike. According to police, Lunn was stopped at a red light near the corner of Ridge Pike and Joshua Road, honked his horn several times and caught the attention of a police officer. When that police officer tried to speak with Lunn at the intersection, he fled at a high rate of speed onto Birch Drive — a residential area, police said.

Lunn was “very unsteady” on his feet, had bloodshot eyes, and slurred speech, police said. According to police, Lunn admitted to having “a few beers” at his residence three hours ago; he failed all of the field sobriety tests administered and his breath tested positive for the presence of alcohol.

The vehicle Lunn was driving had expired registration and inspection, and Lunn was driving with a DUI-related suspended license, police said.

According to court documents, Lunn pleaded guilty following arrests in May 2011 and December 2011 for DUI.

According to police, when asked why he thought he was being pulled over, Lunn said, “Yeah, I was driving like an [expletive]” and said, “You should just take me to jail,” and “I was trying to get away from you.”

Charges are pending the results of a blood test.
