Home Invasion in Whitpain

Family members reportedly held captive during armed robbery.

Four men broke into a Whitpain home and "terrorized" the family inside early Monday afternoon, WPVI-TV reports.

The perpetrators wore ski masks and fled through the back door with money and jewelry when a neighbor knocked on the front door, WPVI reported.

The @MontcoAlerts account on Twitter, which usually relies upon emergency radio transmissions in its reports, described the subjects as possibly 3-4 black males and indicated the homeowner was held at gunpoint. @MontcoAlerts previously reported that the occupants of the home had been tied up during the incident.

The suspects remained at large Monday evening.

Earlier report follows.

Patch is currently receiving tips of an armed robbery reported on the 300 block of Railroad Avenue in Whitpain shortly before 1 p.m. on Monday.

Information is scarce, but @MontcoAlerts reports that a homeowner was held at gunpoint and his family may have been tied up by two to four black males who made off with an undetermined amount of cash.

Patch will update this story as more information becomes available.

Wow do you people have nothing better to do then make a horrible situation worse??? Sad!! Let's keep things in perspective...a single mother and her children were in their own home, their HOME, where people are suppose to feel the safest enjoying time together when strangers felt it was their right to come in hold them at gun point and steal their items! It's pathetic! My heart goes out to that family!!!

Delena, seriously? How hard could it be to tell. I'm sure they had to talk when they said 'get down or I'll shoot' you could clearly tell by their voices. Tina, I'm sorry for what your and your family have gone through, this is devastating and horrible for anyone to go through. I'm sure the police will find these perps and keep them locked away. According to the story (which media makes things up), someone was possibly followed from West Oak Lane. Delena, Now do you want to take back your comments?

Tina, I'm sorry to hear that you and your family experienced this horrible invasion but I was only taking a guess on what the perp's motivation was... For some reason, those perps singled out your house instead of picking out a more isolated and wealthy home to force themselves into. Why don't you shine some more light on this for us? What did they demand for and what did they walk out with?

They probably knew that she was a single mother and felt that it would be easy to over power her.when a home invasion happens the victims are not always to blame. So to assume is just retarted. My heart goes out to you and your family Ms. Tina.
