Five Displaced in Stenton Avenue Fire

A fire rips through a house in the corner of East Gravers Lane and Stenton Avenue in Springfield Township.

A house fire on Stenton Avenue and East Gravers Lane in Springfield Township displaced five residents and closed the street for about five hours on Tuesday.

According to Springfield Township Fire Marshal Charles Baily, the fire started at about 7 a.m. The house was occupied when the fire started, but everyone escaped unharmed. No firefighters were injured.

The house, a large 3-plus story stucture is a one-family dwelling, Baily said.

“It’s a huge, old house,” Baily said. “It’s got a lot of rooms and an open 3-story staircase.”

Baily said the residents have made arrangements to stay with local friends or relatives.

The last firefighters started packing up and leaving the scene at about 12:15 p.m.

The cause and origin of the fire are under investigation, Baily said.
