Woman Arrested for Alleged DUI After Crash at Scoogis in Flourtown

The Gwynedd Valley woman was allegedly sleeping in her car prior to the accident.

A 72-year-old woman was arrested for DUI after striking a vehicle in the Scoogis parking lot on Bethlehem Pike, according to Whitemarsh Township Police.

Edith Bruno, of Gwynedd Valley, was arrested on Jan. 12 just before 6:30 p.m, police said.

A police report states that Bruno’s husband, Gerald, said they were at the restaurant celebrating her birthday when she drank too much and he put her in their vehicle to “sleep until he was ready to leave.”

Unbeknownst to Gerald, Edith had a second set of keys and she got behind the wheel of the car, police say.

Andrea Shtatman, of Harleysville, reported to police that her vehicle was hit by a tan Mercury van driven by an “older white female with red hair,’ who was later identified as Bruno, police said.

Shtatman said that the vehicle left the parking lot, but police say Bruno returned before police arrived on the scene.

As soon as Bruno returned to the parking lot, she got back in the passenger seat, Shtatman reported to police.

Police reported that Bruno smelled of alcohol, looked confused, and could barely stand.  She blew a partial sample of her blood alcohol was .150.

Bruno was transported to Mercy Suburban Hospital for a blood draw, and was released back to her family.

DUI charges are pending the results of the blood draw.
