The Montgomery County Health Department (MCHD), after consulting with the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (PADEP) and Springfield Township officials, will be adulticiding (spraying) to control the adult mosquito population in selected sections of Springfield Township.
The spraying will be done where sampling by the Health Department and PADEP has shown high mosquito populations and/or mosquitoes that carry the West Nile Virus.
The spraying will be done at James Cisco Park, weather permitting, on Wednesday, July 25, 2012 from approximately 8:30pm to 10:00pm. The rain date will be Friday, July 27, 2012.
Street to street spraying will be done, weather permitting, on Thursday, July 26, 2012 from approximately 8:30pm to 10:00pm in Wyndmoor, and from approximately 10:00pm to 11:30pm in Oreland. The rain date will be Monday, July 30, 2012.
The street boundaries for the Wyndmoor spray are: Stenton Avenue, Ivy Hill Road, Queen Street, and Willow Grove Avenue.
The street boundaries for the Oreland spray are: Oreland Mill Road, Church Road, Walnut Avenue, and East Valley Green Road.
All spraying will be performed by MCHD. There will be no aerial spraying. Workers will be using Biomist 3+15 at a rate of 1.5 fluid ounces per acre with an All-Terrain Vehicle (ATV) mounted Ultra Low Volume (ULV) sprayer at the James Cisco Park.
Workers will be using Biomist 3+15 ULV at a rate of 1.5 fluid ounces per acre with a truck mounted ULV sprayer during the street to street spraying in Wyndmoor and Oreland.
The Health Department will work with appropriate agencies to identify, eliminate, or treat with larvacide, areas where mosquitoes are breeding. Residents may contact the Health Department at 610-278-5117 if they are concerned about an area of standing water that may be a breeding area. The adult mosquito control program will only be used in limited situations to reduce large numbers of adult mosquitoes.
