Water Main Break Closes Butler Pike

Road will be closed for "extended time," police say

A raging water main break has shut down Butler Pike near Ridge Pike, Whitemarsh police say.

The break occured at about 8 a.m., but the reason is currently unknown. Aqua PA representatives said it was a 12-inch cast-iron main that broke, causing outages in Whitemarsh, Plymouth, Whitpain, East Norriton, and Norristown, FOX Philly reported.

Part of the roadway has also buckled under the weight of the heavy, flood-like waters, and a Whitemarsh Police dispatcher told Patch they expect the road to be closed for an "extended period of time." Aqua PA representatives told FOX that service should be returned to some customers within the day.
