Plymouth Township Goes All 'Night Out'

The eighth annual community event drew hundreds of residents.

Police cordoned off part of the Metroplex Shopping Center parking lot earlier this week … but not for anything, uh, unpleasant.

Plymouth Township, as well as several other municipalities, held its National Night Out event on Tuesday. The event, which was held in front of the Target store, has been happening in Plymouth for eight years.

Plymouth Township Police Officer Michael Capperella has been involved in the planning of the event for the past several years, and it’s got something of a block party flavor to it. He said the idea of the Plymouth Night Out is to learn about the different agencies of assistance available to residents.

“It’s a fun atmosphere that bolsters community spirit, but it’s also for informational purposes,” Capperella said. “We have people from most of the Montgomery County departments of assistance here to answer questions. And sometimes, people don’t want to walk into the police department, or the DA’s office and ask a question — this kind of atmosphere makes it more comfortable for them.”

In addition to highlighting some of the resources available to residents, the event featured a motorcycle demonstration from several police departments, the Montgomery County Bomb Squad and free food courtesy of Target and Chick-fil-A.
