Make a Pledge for Maple Acres Farm During the 'I Love My Farmers' Market Celebration'

The "I Love My Farmers' Market Celebration" runs through September 9 that encourages consumers to pledge to spend at least $10 at their local farmers market.

According to the "I Love My Farmers' Market" website, the number of farmers markets increased by close to 10 percent between 2011 and 2012, with 7,864 farmers markets listed in the US in 2012.

In Plymouth Meeting, the Maple Acres Farm is open daily from 8 a.m. until 8 p.m. at 2656 Narcissa Road.  According to the release from "I Love My Farmers' Market," for every $10 spent on local food, as much as $7.80 is re-spent in the local community, supporting local jobs and businesses, and the farmer takes home as much as $8-9 instead of $1.58 farmers and ranchers receive through the retail market.

Currently, California, Georgia and New York top the states with the most money pledged to be spent at local farmers' markets. In Pennsylvania, Lancaster Central Market in Lancaster, Farmers Market in Hershey, and Central Market House of York are topping the pledge list.
