Relay For Life Team Nets Over $1K at AOH Washer Tournament

Ancient Order of Hibernians (AOH) Notre Dame Division 1 members held a washer tournament in their Bridgeport club to benefit the Conshohocken Relay for Life team walking in honor of Kelly Romano, who recently overcame breast cancer.

Organized by division president Ron Trask and member Michael McBride, the event hosted 32 teams of two and guests who enjoyed food and beverages donated by the AOH while supporting the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life event, planned for 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. on May 18 at Sutcliffe Park in Conshohocken.

Romano, originally from West Conshohocken and now living in Blue Bell, was diagnosed in July of 2011.

“This is the first year I feel good enough to participate in the walk,” Romano, who underwent surgery, chemotherapy and radiation, said.

“There are so many people that the American Cancer Society helps,” Romano said, citing the organization’s help to cancer patients with bad or no insurance and the “Look Good, Feel Better” campaign.

According to Trask, who was a finalist in the tournament, the event raised over $1,200 for Relay for Life, and several members of the club are participating in the walk.

“We’re happy to help Kelly, and the American Cancer Society,” Trask said.
