Alyssa Butcher of Plymouth Meeting will join the Montgomery County Community College Mustangs women’s basketball team for the 2011-2012 season, according to a release from the college.
Butcher is a 2011 graduate of Plymouth Whitemarsh High School, where she lettered four years in a row on school’s varsity girls’ basketball team. As captain her senior year, Butcher averaged 12 points, seven rebounds, three assists and four blocks per game and led her team to District One Class AAAA Playoffs for the first time in six years.
Now Butcher is excited to continue her basketball career as a Mustang.
“Coming to Montgomery County Community College will be a great transition from high school to college,” she said in a release. “Staying local will allow me to get the support I need both on and off the court. Plus, I’m a daddy’s girl.”
Mustangs head coach Kelly Donohue is looking forward to the incoming freshman joining the program in the fall.
“In addition to bringing some great skill to our team, Alyssa will give us some much needed height next season,” she said in a statement.
The Mustangs have had an historically short team, the tallest player being 5’9” Kaleigh Prough (Methacton) who played guard in 2009-2010. Butcher is over six feet tall.
With strong returning players and new talent like Butcher, the Montgomery County Community College women’s basketball team is poised to make a strong showing in the program’s first season in the National Junior College Athletic Association. Previously, the team posted a second place finish two years in a row in the Eastern Pennsylvania Collegiate Conference.
