Conshy 'Boathouse' Groundbreaking Set for Sunday

Community invited to attend ceremony for the Conshohocken Rowing Center.

After about three years of planning and approvals, the ceremonial groundbreaking for the Conshohocken Rowing Center will finally take place this Sunday.

A press release from the borough says that Conshohocken Council, along with representatives of Malvern Preparatory School and the Haverford School, will break ground at 1 p.m. The center will be constructed on the borough's "100-foot strip," along the Schuylkill River, between Poplar and Cherry Streets.

"The state-of-the-art Rowing Center will serve as the home and practice center for the [school] rowing teams," the release stated. "Additionally, Conshohocken residents will be able to join the Rowing Center and use it to gain access to the Schuylkill for rowing, kayaking, and other forms of recreation."

According to the release, the center will include three boat bays, locker rooms, club rooms, and a viewing deck for rowing fans. The Fellowship House will also administer swim lessons for borough residents from the facility, the release said.

According to the borough, It is the first joint private and public recreational facility in Conshohocken.
