Car Fire in Conshohocken Quickly Controlled

Vehicle's engine caught fire at 6th Avenue and Maple Street.

A car caught fire at 6th Avenue and Maple Street in Conshohocken Tuesday, but was quickly controlled by responding firefighters, with no reported injuries.

Conshohocken Fire Chief Stephen Phipps told Patch that the vehicle, which had been having difficulties, was traveling from Norristown when a "heavy fire" sparked under the hood at approximately 11:30 a.m. The vehicle's occupants were able to make it out of the vehicle as the fire spread into the passenger compartment.

Two trucks from the Conshohocken Fire Company responded and were able to quell the flames in about ten minutes, Phipps said. The vehicle was then towed from the scene and the intersection reopened to traffic.
