Conshohocken Physical Therapy Employees Awarded Presitigious Certification
Conshohocken Physical Therapy is pleased to announce that Dr. Desirea Caucci, PT, DPT, OCS and Dr. Nicole Puzio, PT, DPT, OCS were recently awarded the distinction of board certified Orthopedic Clinical Specialist (OCS).
The American Physical Therapy Association (APTA), established the specialist certification program to distinguish those PT’s who possess a greater depth of knowledge and skills related to his or her particular area of practice.
Currently, there are approximately 260 physical therapists who hold this distinction in the state of Pennsylvania. To become a clinical specialist, a physical therapist builds a broad base of professional education and practice to develop greater knowledge and skills related to a particular area of practice.
Specialist certification is obtained by demonstrating competence in both specialized knowledge and advanced clinical proficiency. Minimum standards for competence include 2,000 hours of direct patient care in the specialty area and successful completion of a written examination.
A study published by Journal of Orthopaedic and Sports Physical Therapy (JOSPT) in 2000 found that “Our data supports the conclusion that physical therapists with OCS are more efficient compared with clinicians without OCS.”
